Tyrannosaurus Rex, or tyrant lizard, is thought to be one of the most ferocious creatures who roamed the earth in the late Cretaceous Period, 70-65 million years ago. Its brain was the largest of any known dinosaur, with large areas devoted to sight and smell. Powerful and massive hind legs, with three bird-like clawed toes, made it a fast runner over short distances, and its enormous teeth with saw-like edges, were perfect for biting and ripping its prey. It was 46' (14m) long and 13' (4m) high at the hip, and weighed 8 tons (7.26 m tons). Some people feel that its two very short forelimbs mean that it was solely a scavenger, while other people still maintain that Tyrannosaurus was a ferocious hunter.
Triceratops, or three horned face, is the most famous four legged plant eater of the late Cretaceous Period. At 33' (10m) long, and weighing from 5-10 tons (4.54-9-07 m tons), it had massive jaw muscles and a parrot-like beak, with a thick hide, and the longest teeth of any land plant eater. Triceratops had a large head frill with two 3' (1m) horns and a nasal horn for defense, which made it a dangerous opponent. These creatures grazed in large herds in North America, and were powerful enough to fight it out with the might T Rex amongst others, and potentially win. It was probably one of the last dinosaurs to meet extinction.
